Karina Svalya is a hometown artist in the deepest sense. Her roots are in Saratoga where she grew up and attended Saratoga public schools. After graduating from Boston College, Karina served in Jordan with the Peace Corps; she also graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New York and is a certified chef. She is presently enrolled at The Academy of Art University in San Francisco where her work was selected for and sold at the Academy’s 2006 Spring Show. Karina has returned to California after study, work and travel in Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe, most recently Italy.
Her work already hangs in private collections in San Francisco, San Diego, Redlands, Monte Sereno, Saratoga, London, and Japan. One of her pieces has been featured twice in the San Bernadino County’s Newspaper. She has been awarded first prize at the Santa Clara County fair for studies in black and white. She welcomes portrait and landscape commissions.
