Jin Hei Kang is a recent graduate of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. Her focus was drawing and painting in oils. She has been under the direct tutelage of Craig Nelson, director of School of Fine Arts in the Academy, for the art of portraiture. She has also had the honor of being taught by notable Northern California plein air painters such as Carolyn Meyer, John Poon, and Randall Sexton.
Before finding her path to fine art painting, she attended New York University to learn the art of designing stage sets and costumes for theater. She participated in numerous productions at NYU as assistant designer and head designer.
Her love of painting began at an early age while watching her father paint with oils. His creativity spurned her love of painting nature and the things around her. She was able to double major in high school in academic sciences and the arts.

Currently, Jin Hei enjoys going on location and painting the ever changing California landscape. The challenge of painting outdoors is always a great exercise in capturing time, weather, and the emotional atmosphere of the day. The studies that she creates help her to remember the moment and to transfer that energy to larger pieces. She also accepts commissions of portraiture. |
